*Portfolio* - ELA

My experience with the ELA portion of Humanities 30 has taught me many things. Humanities 30 has increased my reading comprehension and my writing ability. I have learned to look past the literal meaning of a text and find the deeper more subtle messages. Aside from this, I have also learned a lot about myself and the extent to which I am capable of comprehending a text. Humanities so far has made me realize my weaknesses and strengths when it comes to reading and writing and I believe has sharpened my writing skills. The assignments I have chosen for the ELA section of my portfolio accurately show the improvement of my work over the course of the year so far.

Independent Reading:
I chose to read George Orwells “1984” for my independent novel study not only because it’s critically acclaimed but also because it includes content which is relevant to my interests. A fictitious Dystopia is one of the most entertaining worlds to read about. The assignment I did for “1984” was little less than exemplary but it taught me a lot about improving my future work. It made me realize that I need to look deeper into the meaning of a novel rather than using first impressions and literal statements for my assignments.
