In both of my diploma writing practice assignments I neglected to connect the Liberal principles I mention to any specific form of Liberalism. In some cases I have even described ideologies without mentioning the actual Ideology such as in my Diploma Writing II when I describe Collectivism. While my work does not reflect any improvement in my naming of these ideologies, I have definitely taken these easily fixed mistakes into consideration for my Diploma Exam and will keep in mind that I need to be more specific on the matter.
In my Source Analysis – Diploma Writing assignment, I make a mistake in explaining my analysis of the cartoon. While I realize now the artist was being sarcastic in his remarks about wealthy capitalists and economic equality, my interpretation at the time reflected a more serious view on the author’s opinion. Images are much harder for me to analyze then a paragraph or essay so in the future I’ll make sure to spend more time reviewing the picture than I did in this situation.
In Diploma Writing II, the concluding sentence of my first paragraph and the first sentence of my second paragraph make it seem as though I am against the PATRIOT Act while my final outlook was positive in relation to the Act. This is, again, a simple mistake on my part in that I got my thoughts mixed up when I was writing. Just to make it clear, the opinion I support in this piece of writing is that the Patriot Act can be considered a positive in some situations.

Individual Resistance 5
Does the rejection of Liberalism need to be followed by the implementation of a Totalitarian government? In both contemporary and historical examples of nations refusing to accept Liberalism, the government has always ended up being Totalitarian. For instance, in Russia Liberalism was rejected and a communist government took its place. Eventually, the government degraded into a totalitarian regime because of the corruption and greed of the leaders. Ideally, this was not what the revolutionaries had expected and it was not meant to happen. The revolution in Cuba was fairly similar to the Russian revolution. Cuba did not become a totalitarian state for three years after the revolution. While every country I am aware of that refused Liberalism has become totalitarian, there is a chance that the leader of one of these nations might not be corrupt or power hungry and may keep their promises. However, it would have to be a perfect situation with the people in question having flawless morals.

Independent Reading:
I chose to read George Orwells “1984” for my independent novel study not only because it’s critically acclaimed but also because it includes content which is relevant to my interests. A fictitious Dystopia is one of the most entertaining worlds to read about. The assignment I did for “1984” was little less than exemplary but it taught me a lot about improving my future work. It made me realize that I need to look deeper into the meaning of a novel rather than using first impressions and literal statements for my assignments.
